Inversion formula for the intemucleus potential using sub-barrier fusion cross sections

چکیده
Subject to the assumption that sub-barrier fusion is described by an effective one-dimensional energy-independent local potential barrier, the Jeffreys-Wentzel-Kramers-Brillouin approximation for the fusion cross sections is inverted to determine this effective potential. Potential barriers, with their associated experimental errors, are presented for 13C+ 13C and 40Ca+ 40Ca, and the assumption of a local effective potential is shown to be inadequate for 64Ni + 64Ni.

Fusion at deep subbarrier energies: potential inversion revisited
For a single potential barrier, the barrier penetrability can be inverted based on the WKB approximation to yield the barrier thickness. We apply this method to heavy-ion fusion reactions at energies well below the Coulomb barrier and directly determine the inter-nucleus potential between the colliding nuclei. To this end, we assume that fusion cross sections at deep subbarrier energies are gov...

We discuss the role of break-up process of a loosely-bound projectile in subbarrier fusion reactions. Coupled-channels calculations are carried out for Be + Pb and 4,6He + U reactions by discretizing in energy the particle continuum states. Our calculations show that the coupling to the break-up channel has two effects, namely the loss of flux and the dynamical modulation of fusion potential. T...

New measurements of fusion cross sections at deep sub-barrier energies for the reactions 16O+{204,208}Pb show a steep but almost saturated logarithmic slope, unlike 64Ni-induced reactions. Coupled channels calculations cannot simultaneously reproduce these new data and above-barrier cross-sections with the same Woods-Saxon nuclear potential. It is argued that this highlights an inadequacy of th...
متن کاملSignature of smooth transition from sudden to adiabatic states in heavy-ion fusion reactions at deep sub-barrier energies.
We propose a novel extension of the standard coupled-channels framework for heavy-ion reactions in order to analyze fusion reactions at deep-sub-barrier incident energies. This extension simulates a smooth transition between the two-body and the adiabatic one-body states. To this end, we damp gradually the off-diagonal part of the coupling potential, for which the position of the onset of the d...
